I have received an overwhelmingly positive response from Officer of the Watch (Blackout vol. 1), and along with that have come multiple requests for the second volume. I can’t even put into words how awesome that feels as a first time author, and someone who has literally dreamed of this moment my whole life.
I purposefully ended OOTW with some pretty big unanswered questions, and the very beginnings of a hint at the larger cabal moving in the shadows and pulling the strings that resulted in the major attack that initiates this series. The second volume, Storm Tide Rising, will see that shadowy group of conspirators move into the open and begin to consolidate their power. There is hope, though. These Machiavellian villains failed to take into account the unmitigated bravery, patriotism, and dedication of a group of hardened veterans and average citizens, willing to risk everything in order to resurrect the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
Storm Tide Rising will expand our time frame also. The first installment, OOTW, dealt with the first four-five days after an EMP attack. By the end, the edges of “polite society” were beginning to fray already, and people were tasting the first hints of desperation. In Storm Tide Rising, we will see what happens over the course of the first 6-8 months after the power grid completely collapses. Our characters will have to face the challenges of a hard winter, and the uncertainties that come with a world without the stabilizing force of the US government.
The US has been called the modern Roman Empire. The early Romans began their year with the month of March…. and the march to war….
